  • School Vision
Gessians of Excellence, Standing and Significance.
  • School Mission
Our school is a community that nurtures the best in each and strives ever ONWARD.
  • School Philosophy, Culture and Ethos

Founded in 1885, the school motto "ONWARD" has inspired generations of Gessians to be forward looking and active in their contributions to the community and nation. GESS strongly believes in providing a quality school experience that will enable all students to be innovative thinkers, collaborative learners, principled leaders, and love embodied, fulfilling the four aspects of our Gessian portrait. We believe that education in the 21st century is about nurturing the whole person in an environment where every student and staff member is valued, encouraged and empowered to excel, learn and care for others, and where their accomplishments are celebrated. The school designs a wide range of academic and student development programmes to provide students with both formal and informal learning opportunities. The school's CCE curriculum engages every student's head, heart and hands, and all of them will go through programmes such as level camps and community and youth leadership events that focus on developing self-mastery skills and enable them to contribute to the community. As a pilot school for the Full Subject-Based Banding (FSBB), GESS offers greater customisation of learning based on students' subject-specific strengths and interests. This is aligned with our Founder's vision of enabling students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn and grow as a community.

  • Distinctive Programmes

The GESS LIFE programme develops students to be confident and effective student leaders who positively impact their community through the 3D approach - Discover themselves, Develop good habits, and Design the world. Through a series of experiential learning activities, students develop greater self-awareness and hone their socio-emotional competencies. They are also equipped with lifelong learning skills to improve the lives of others via multiple platforms provided by the school and the community. The GESS Applied Learning Programme (ALP) is anchored on the Design Thinking framework and leverages the theme of sustainability to foster future work skills such as innovative thinking and collaborative learning in students. The multidisciplinary approach enables different subjects to helm the ALP at different levels. Students who exhibit the aptitude and passion for specific interest areas are chosen for external competitions and showcases via the school's Talent Development Programme. GESS also takes great pride in its vibrant and award-winning CCAs which nurture students' enthusiasm and commitment to bring out the best in themselves and others.
