In Horizon Primary School, we believe that every child is a confident individual who is able to grow and become a responsible citizen. Horizon's driving force is garnered from 3 significant areas; our learning environment, our philosophy of our students and the people who realise the School Vision.

Our learning environment is one that focuses on providing a wide range of learning platforms for holistic development. Thus, the learning experiences are designed to grow a child holistically in the 5 domains - Moral, Cognitive, Physical, Social and Aesthetics. We aspire to develop in every child good character and nourish his or her intellectual, social and emotional well-being. This is accomplished through daily learning experiences and joyful activities offered through a variety of school programmes (e.g. Safe Play@Horizon, Aesthetic programmes, Design Thinking Projects, Language Acquisition programmes), our school's Learning for Life Programme (LLP), I-LEAD+, our Applied Learning Programme (ALP), Computational Thinking in Mathematics, as well as our wide range of Co-Curricular Activities (CCA).

As our philosophy is 'Every Child a Leader', we focus strongly on character and leadership development. I-LEAD+ is our leadership development programme for all students anchored on Stephen Covey's 7 Habits and the school values- Respect, Integrity, Compassion and Excellence. The curriculum allows students to learn, practise and inculcate the 7 Habits and the school values through their daily learning experiences to become self-leaders.

The strong pillars of Horizon's vibrant learning environment are our staff and parents. As a dedicated staff community, we strive to ensure that every student is taught to take charge of their personal growth to be a leader of self, who is both responsible and respected by others. Parents who are our firm and supportive partners work collaboratively to motivate, encourage and spur our students to be confident learners and leaders.

Horizon's LLP is on Student Leadership. This is embodied by our I-LEAD+ curriculum, which is a whole-school Student Leadership Development Programme anchored on 7 Habits. I-LEAD+ is developed with the vision that our students are empowered to become effective self-leaders, who will then influence and contribute to those around them positively. The I-LEAD+ integrates 7 Habits into the various subject areas and serves as the backbone to the school's Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) curriculum, providing a holistic education covering Life Skills (Leadership), Social Emotional competencies, and Values and Citizenship Education. Primary 1 and 2 students undergo a weekly "Discovering the Leader in Me" lessons during 7 Habits periods. Primary 3 to 6 students continue to learn the 7 Habits through various subjects/domains. This is further complemented with our two-tiered Student Leadership Development Model, where the first tier develops students as self-leaders while the second tier further develops identified students as student leaders. Given the increasingly technologically advanced nation and global landscape, there is great value in providing opportunities to students to acquire digital and technology literacies and skills, develop 21st Century thinking skills (e.g. critical, inventive and computational thinking skills) as well as positive dispositions such as resilience. This is achieved through our school's ALP - Computational Thinking in Mathematics. Our ALP is delivered through a structured programme from Primary 2 to 6, using age-appropriate block-based programming to develop computational thinking skills. It also provides students with opportunities to apply Mathematical concepts and thinking. Importantly, we hope to inculcate an attitude of "Try, Fail, Try", embracing a growth mindset that learning is a lifelong process and solving real-world problems takes not only critical and creative thinking, but also perseverance and collaboration.
